    Adding some ancillaries to DaC

Post  jimjuif on Tue Dec 08, 2009 3:21 pm

    Hi,

as I wrote it on WTcenter, i'm unable to add new ancillaries to Dac using the same method for vanilla TATW. Help plz! But, as Eorl asked, i have some ideas for ancillaries (some work perfectly on TATW). I thougt Dac (and TATW as well) missed some of the funiest anc from lotr world, like the three remaining palantirs (orthang, tirith and morgul), isildur's relics fount by Curunir in Anduin, the key of orthanc, the dwarves rings (i think by the end of third age they still had some), hobbit related anc for eriador's factions, like spices, beef jerky, pipes of course), the scepter of anniminas for aragorn after a certain point, mithril chain mail etc. I could, with proper knowledge, edit some nice trait too. It would be nice for Dac to offer players to build a genuine «treasure of the house of the king», i mean that anc could be generally acquired by non-cultural faction. Exemple, possibility for non-elven faction to acquires elven anc by beating a general who had them. It mean crossing over a lot of triggers allowing them to be acquired by every factions by war (like one of the triggers of the isildur bane).... just some ideas, i started playing tatw like a week ago and dac like six days ago (tatw is oversimplified), i like the harshness of the RotN campain!

The Spreadsheet is a tool which automatically creates the .txt file based on the what Ancillaries are made in the tool.

I.e you choose and Ancillary Name, It's effects, triggers etc, and save. It'll automatically generate the trigger, effect and name code etc to save you the time.

It shouldn't break it if you know what you're doing, but always back up. That holds true for ANY modding tbh Wink Bear in mind though, that I'll probably neaten out the eda as part of the restructure.

When creating the Ancillaries, etc, could you post your changes here so I can add it easier whenever I decide to take a gander? Wink

    Thanks, and good luck!

I like the idea. Smile Below are some notes and lore on some of the things you mentioned.

like the three remaining palantirs (orthanc, tirith and morgul) I would be interested in seeing what you have planned for these Smile
isildur's relics fount by Curunir in Anduin These were in Saruman's possesion until his fall to the Ents but were undiscovered until after the War of the Ring
the key of orthanc also in Saruman's possesion until taken by the Ents and is just a key to open the tower, which when locked is pretty much impenetrable as even the Ents couldn't harm it.
the dwarves rings (i think by the end of third age they still had some)All of the Dwarven Rings of Power that survived to the end of the Third Age are in the possession of Sauron, the last was claimed by Sauron in T.A. 2845 when Thrain was captured, taken to Dol Guldur and later slain there, this was Durin's Ring and said to be the most powerful of the Seven, by the Dwarves of Durin's house at least.
mithril chain mail Do you mean Bilbo's Mithril Coat? If so this remained in the shire in a museum at Micheal Delving I believe, until retrieved by Bilbo sometime before he left in T.A. 3001

But only if they fulfill the requirements for that, right? Divide and Conquer

And some more nice little surprises to be discovered during the game, if I remember well.... :lol!:

These ancillaries are giving me headache!

I really dont understand why those anc don work! I reedit those files again and again to eliminate the risk of error, did exactly the same thing as for tatw. Is there something else a should know that make em dont work in dac and work in tatw? Can it be related to the place in the trigger list (i tried many, followed tutorial to edit tatw but it dont work for dac) or something else? Help me with those anc and ill be glad to send you my files for you to adapt them and use them on vanilla dac! Also, i saw yesterday an ad for a english french translation of dac. If its still a living project i could help there too for im a frenchmen...

    thx

Hm... Well that I don't rightly know, sorry. You could try getting yourself a copy of the Tools (in the Modding Section, there's one dedicated to making the units).

And @ Bela - correct Wink
